8 Budget-friendly Accent Wall Ideas for Your Home

Highlighting a wall is not restricted to just painting. New-age designers have come up with different styles of accentuating a wall. The “one colored wall” concept is gone; today you can experience more creative accent wall ideas. There are different varieties of textures, finishes, and materials that can be used to highlight a wall, some of the most popular ones are wallpaper, wood paneling, and coloring.

Let’s find out some creative yet budget-friendly accent wall ideas for your home.

Geometric Accent Wall: The geometric pattern on the wall can be created using painter’s tape and paint. All you need to do is create a pattern on the wall using the tape and paint the complete area. As soon as the paint dries up, take off the tape and your geometric accent wall will be ready. Not only this is budget friendly, but the style is pretty much in demand and it will make your space look desirable.

Wood Pallets on the Wall: Paneling is another great way of adding texture to your room. It looks sleek and neat and enriches the given space. This type of accent wall can be created using wood panel similar to what is used in wooden flooring. Get the panels fixed on the wall you wish to highlight. Wood panel on the wall creates a warm environment and make space look stylish. Also, the overall costing will be equal to that of wooden flooring.

Chalkboard Accent Wall: The chalkboard sheet is easily available in the market and is even cheaper than a wallpaper. All you have to do is paste the sheet on the wall, decorate with paintings and photo frames just as shown in the image below. Chalkboard accent wall is a pretty new thing –kids love to have such a wall in their room where they can scribble or pen down their imagination.

Painted Wood Panels: This is definitely our favorite form of accent wall design. You can create this look just by fixing wood panels on the wall and paint the area in a darker shade (or a warm shade depending on one’s choice). You can select your favorite color from these popular choices- sunshine yellow, rich earth tones, shades of purple, metallic blue, vibrant greens, shades of blue, pastels, pink, deep red, and classic black.

Image via Pinterest

Tiling on Accent Wall: Just as the tiling on the floor, the wall tiling looks very elegant. For a high-end look, one can choose from plenty of options available. The glass tile looks stunning and can totally change the look of your space. The tiles can be stuck to the wall just the way they are stuck on the floor. For a cheaper option, try peel and stick tiles to create an accent wall. There are lots of patterns available in the market that will make your space look elegant.

Stencil on Accent Wall: The latest designs in wall stencil patterns available in the market can effortlessly help you in styling your home. You can create a beautiful wall by putting these stencils on the wall and coloring it to form a pretty pattern. Try to use bold and bright colors to highlight the pattern. One can also get trendy geometric and Moroccan pattern for a dramatic accent wall. This is also a pocket-friendly option compared to other accent wall ideas.

Image via Pinterest

Customized Wallpaper: Wallpaper is one of the most common ways of designing an accent wall in your home. It is removable and needs no paste or water. Since wallpaper is a temporary thing, one can replace old wallpaper with a new one whenever they want. With the customized wallpaper option, one can get their favorite design printed on the wallpaper. The price for customized wallpaper depends on the design and size of the wall.

Image via Pinterest

Vinyl Sheet Wallpaper on Accent Wall: You may have heard of vinyl flooring a lot of times. The vinyl wallpaper is not something you will get easily in the market. One needs to get the vinyl sheet printed with their choice of design to use it as wallpaper. One of the benefits of vinyl sheet wallpaper is that it is water-resistant and long-lasting.

Whatever is your style, think different and be creative. A feature wall reflects your personality; the good thing is that you don’t need a huge budget to create a beautiful look in your space with an accent wall.

Gold and peacock blue

Rich peacock blue color and warm gold is another classic color combination that can spice up any dull space. You can do a beautiful makeover using these two colors. Splash the wall with peacock blue paint as shown in the picture below and add some gold tones on the sofa or bed headboard (for bedroom makeover) to get the best result. This warm and pretty color combination works best for kid spaces.

Charcoal Black and Multicolor Hues

The charcoal black color can be used with a combination of emerald, red, green, pink, blue and yellow colors. Give a stunning effect to your living room by using these colors in a smart way. Just as shown in the picture, use black as the base color and add other vibrant colors in the right balance to add style to the place.

Image via Pinterest

Bridal Pink and Dark Pink

The color combination is perfect for a girl’s space. A cream color sofa can be used in the backdrop to highlight this juicy shade. One needs to be really smart to try this bold color combination because surplus use of either of shades can ruin the appearance of the room. Try to use an off-white or cream color seating in the room to minimize the effect of pink tones. You can also use black and white frames and mirrors (as shown in the image) on the wall to balance the color effect.

Image via Pinterest

Dusky Green and Red

Dusky green and red color look dynamic together. Many designers put together this exciting combination to create a bold yet beautiful space. Red is a powerful color and it must be used as an accent color on artifacts, wallpaper, cushions, curtains, rug, or on any standalone piece of furniture. The image below is a perfect combination of red and dusky green.

Image via Pinterest

Lavender and Yellow

A little bit of lavender in the living room can give a different look to your home. Lavender and Yellow are two very different colors but they definitely look beautiful together. The Yellow color here is in minimal use as compared to the lavender color. There are different shades of lavender used in the picture, making the room look prettier with every enhancement.

Image via Pinterest

Bridal Pink and Electric Blue

The pink color is light and unsaturated and serves as an accent color in any room. On the contrary electric blue is dark and saturated; it is often used as the highlighter to reflect light colors such as pink. The electric blue looks fabulous with bridal pink. You can mix pretty much the two colors to give a stunning effect to the interiors of your home.

Colors play a very important role in the beautification of your space. It is time to think beyond the light and risk-free colors and choose unusual color combinations to give a makeover to your beautiful home.

7 Nursery Ideas for New Parents

For any couple, babies are a blessing. And while parenting can be challenging on its own, we do believe designing the nursery interior for your little one can be an interesting job. We know that for many of you, undertaking home decor from scratch may seem daunting or overwhelming or both. But we hope that we can help simplify this process for you.

So let us take some baby steps and start with the basics…

  1. Remember less is more

One needs to remember that it’s a baby’s room and babies wouldn’t need a lot of things. Just get the essentials in the room- a crib, a table, and maybe a recliner for yourself. Avoid cluttering the room too much as you would increase your risk of tripping over. Keep some functional storage unit as well wherein you can tuck away the stuff which is not needed for the moment. Also, make sure everything you need is around you and within your reach.

  1. Create well-ventilated space

The nurseries must be well-ventilated and regulated for moisture to keep the microbial growth under check. Install an air purifier or humidifier if necessary. Also, choosing an antibacterial, non-toxic paint with low or no volatile organic compounds can go a long way. Creating a window panel in the room can solve the problem once and for all like nothing better than the fresh breeze of air for your child. Also, the room should have a space for everything from baby walkers to clothes to accessories.

  1. Choose colors wisely

This generally begins with choosing the right color for the walls and the shades for the windows. Babies would want to take a nap at any hours of the day. Keeping this in mind, the wall paints should be bright so that the babies can be given the illusion of night at any given time. For the windows choose dark, thick curtains or use blinds so that they can block light coming into the room while the baby is napping. And when the babies have a peaceful nap, you would realize how relaxing it can be for you.

  1. Avoid Gender Stereotypes

Pink for the girls and blue for the boys- we all tend to begin making the distinction too early on. Babies are just babies and we must treat them equally. Try and keep the room as much gender neutral as possible. Avoid painting the wall in all pink or all blue shades. Avoid any toys, accessories or even artwork that is a loud gender stereotype. You can put common toys over the shelf and put some good paintings on the wall and decorate the space with accessories gifted for the baby by their loved ones.

  1. Give it some space

Another important aspect of nursery ideas is having a lot of walkable space in the room. Most of the time, you would be carrying the baby back and forth; sometimes even in the middle of the night. Any misplaced object or chair could lead to an accident. Also, use a good rug or carpet, so you can leave your child on the floor when it’s time for them to crawl. Here again, using convertibles or folding furniture could make the job simple for you.

  1. Choose an adaptable theme and layout

There’s no fault with picking up a theme for the nursery. But babies grow up pretty quickly; the theme might look irrelevant after a year or two. So your home décor ideas must be adaptable to the changing times and needs of the baby. Even the room layout might need some revisions every few months. Get rid of any furniture or accessory that might be of no use to make way for new ones.

  1. Think long-term

As much as we love them when they are little, babies won’t be babies forever. Your infants would become toddlers before you know it. This would call for some remodeling of the room. Try and minimize your efforts into the renovation. For instance, you may use adaptable cribs that grow as per the babies needs to avoid re-furnishing every time. Likewise, when the time comes washable wallpapers and folding furniture can be real blessings in disguise.

All things said, raising your baby would be as rewarding as it would be challenging. Just like your baby would need your personal care, love and warmth every single day, your home décor and interiors designs deserve your affectionate attention with time.

Home Tour | This beautiful home in Mahagun Mywoods is all about comfort

Our clients: Isha and Ajeet

Home size: 3 BHK spanning, 1240 Sqft

Location: Mahagun Mywoods Phase 1, Greater Noida, Gaur City

Budget: Between 10 Lakh and 14 Lakh

Two words that perfectly describe this abode are ‘Bold and Beautiful’

Located in the impressive surroundings of Greater Noida Extension, this three bedroom apartment has everything one can ask for in a home. Our designer Rohit has played intelligently with prints and colors in the house and also added his own style to every single object available here. One can see many bold shades used on the walls and doors, interesting furniture in bedroom and living room, and attractive pieces of artwork used in various corners of this house. It’s so amazing to see different shades and tones coming together forming a lively combination like contrasts of dark and light.

The home belongs to a lovely couple Isha and Ajeet who dreamt of a modern abode with very serene ambiance bursting with rich shades. Our designer created exactly what they wanted and the result is beautiful. Here is a look at this well done up space…

Impressive Master Bedroom

Everything is just effortlessly beautiful in this house, especially the master bedroom. The center wall of this very room is painted in blue color, which is just the contrast of pink used on the bed headboard. We also loved the light brown curtains that allow just the perfect amount of sunlight in the room.

The mirror frame on the wall and white flower vase on bedside table too are adding to the beauty of this gorgeous master bedroom.

Luxurious Guestroom

The guest room is a combination of modern and colonial interior concepts. While the bed and the wall are a bit of English design, everything else is just modern. The olive green wall with molding and the striped bed headboard are complimenting each other very well.

Elegant and Modern Living Room

The living room too is a blend of British and modern interiors. While the center wall of the room is painted in the light grey shade in an English style with molding on it, the LCD unit is designed keeping in mind the modern finishing. The royal blue curtains and British style chandelier are adding to the colonial theme of the room. We also loved the sleek and stylish bar cabinet and the glass partition that separates the living area from the dining room.

Kitchen with Unlimited Storage

The best part of this aesthetically appealing kitchen is the way storage is planned. There is plenty of storage space in the kitchen catering to every small or big requirement of the client. The two-toned kitchen turns out into a stunner. We love the maroon and crème color combination that gives soothing freshness to the dining space.

Stunning Study Room

This tiny room is exclusively designed for multi-purposes such as reading, praying, and dressing up. While one corner in the room is dedicated for praying, the other area is used for dressing up and reading. There is a large wardrobe in the room and a book stand for the couple to use it the way they want. One can simply sit on the floor and relax in the comforting ambience of the room.

Elegant Foyer Area

This foyer is designed using simple colors, wall artwork, and a chandelier. Our designer had tried his best to make it look as simple and beautiful as possible. Since it is the only entrance to the home, it should be elegant enough to grab the attention of guests coming home.

The client’s thoughts…

“We were very particular with our choices and clear about our tastes. The good thing is the designer understood what we wanted and offered us exactly that. We loved the way wall is done in each room of the house,” says Isha Choudhary.

Home Interior Design Ideas to Make It Pet-friendly

Pets are an integral part of our lives and homes and so they should feel equally welcome in the house. The little furballs are loved by their owners.  So if you are a dog or cat person already or want to adopt any of these furry friends any time soon, there are some interior design changes that can turn out to be a blessing for your home. Here are some home interior design ideas to make your home pet-friendly.

Use fur-free upholstery

Having a dog or a cat or both can cause some serious fur problem. You should avoid using all fabrics and materials that act as magnets to pet furs like velvet, silk, chenille, mohair, velour or corduroy.  Instead, invest in quality textiles like leather and smooth tapestries that can withstand frequent claw attacks. It is also a great home interior design idea to choose fabrics matching with your pets’ furs.

Keep Pet-friendly furniture

Pets find furniture to be their best past time teething toys. And those dents and scratches can give a bad look to your furnishings. So you may choose to go for metal and chrome furniture which will be comparatively resistant to serious damage by their teeth or claws.

Stain resistant flooring

Pets tend to spend a large amount of time on floors- eating, scratching and often times peeing and pooping too. Hardwood floors can develop tough stains that won’t wash away easily, causing permanent damage. To make homes pet-friendly, laminate flooring, stone or ceramic tiles can make a huge difference as cleaning the floor stains would get a whole lot easier.

Create separate space for pet’s accessories

You can either choose to have a separate space in your home for your pet or have a corner of your kitchen or mudroom dedicated to stash away your pet essentials. Having low cabinets can go a long way in stocking their food, wipes, toys and grooming supplies. Besides easy access, they are also easy to clean and maintain.

Offer window with a view

Pets spend a lot of time staring out of the window. So you should avoid blinds and lightweight fabric on the windows. But if you choose to have them, make sure they are pulled up or kept beyond their reach to avoid wear & tear.

Keep home accessories off paws

Having pets around can lead to a lot of trouble & mess. Make sure all the fragile & delicate decorative items are kept at a height away from your pet’s reach. Keep candles, paintings, lightweight vase, lamps and glass items or breakables on the floor or where their tails, heads, and paws can’t get to them. Also, keep their food & water bowls in plain sight for them to avoid going on a wild hunting spree.

Be careful while buying rugs & carpets

Another important task is to choose your outdoor fabrics and rugs such that they can be easily cleaned off mud, stains. Also matching the rug with your four-legged’s fur will save you from the pain of cleaning them frequently. A careful selection from velvet, leather, and denim can mean all the difference.

Install sliding gates wherever possible

Not just babies, sometimes these pooches and kittens can also cause a lot of trouble by their intrusion in wrong areas of your home. Keep them away from risky, accident-prone areas by having pocket half-door installed wherever appropriate. These doors come with metal rails that slide on the floor without leaving any scratches.
